We begin in Panama, connecting with Afro-Panamanian culture, elders, artists, nature, and sacred sites. Then we continue to Trinidad for Carnival season, steel pan, dance, food, storytelling, ceremony, and celebration. This is a cultural immersion, healing journey, and community experience designed for Black travelers who want to reconnect with the African Diaspora through culture, creativity, joy, and liberation.

Day-by-Day Experience

Day 1 — Wednesday, January 20: Panama Arrival + Welcome

Guests arrive in Panama. We begin with a welcome luncheon at Iya’s House, check in, visit Metropolitan Natural Park, and close the evening with a boat party.

Day 2 — Thursday, January 21: Afro Panama City Tour

A day of history, culture, and city exploration, including the Panama Canal, museums, Mi Pueblito, walking tours, sunset views, drumming, local food, and community connection.

Day 3 — Friday, January 22: Portobelo, Colón + Congo Culture

We travel to Portobelo and Colón to explore Afro-Panamanian heritage, beach time, Congo culture, food, nightlife, and mask painting.

Day 4 — Saturday, January 23: Sacred Sites + Travel to Trinidad

We visit Oshun Temple, shop, enjoy nature at the Utive River, share a picnic, and then travel to Trinidad in the evening.

Day 5 — Sunday, January 24: Trinidad Arrival + Carnival Culture

We begin the Trinidad portion with Afro Unidad Fest energy, Carnival celebration, dance class, drum class, and cultural connection.

Day 6 — Monday, January 25: Steel Pan, Shrine + Cooking

We visit pan yards, Savannah Park, gardens, beach spaces, Obatala Shrine, museum sites, and close with cooking class and game night.

Day 7 — Tuesday, January 26:

Forest, Storytelling + CelebrationUtive RiverWe visit Fondes Amandes, connect with nature, create a community poem/storytelling experience, and close the night with karaoke.

Day 8 — Wednesday, January 27: Closing Ceremony + Departure

We gather for a closing ceremony, final shopping, reflection, and departures home.

Afro Unidad Travels is hosted by Afro Unidad, a Pan-African cultural community rooted in connection, creativity, healing, and diasporic exchange.

Our hosts and facilitators include artists, cultural workers, musicians, organizers, spiritual practitioners, educators, and local culturalists in Panama and Trinidad. Together, we create a community-centered experience that honors the ancestors, supports local artists, and helps participants build real connection across the African Diaspora.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. After the $275 deposit, participants may make 5 additional monthly payments of $275.

Can I pay in full?

Yes. You may pay the full Early Bird amount of $1,650 before August 15.

Are flights included?

No. International flights are not included in the tour package.

How does the Copa Airlines stopover work?

Copa Airlines allows eligible travelers to stop in Panama on the way to another destination, which may allow participants to visit Panama and Trinidad on one round-trip itinerary. Here are suggested flight links from New York, Los Angeles, and other cities.

What is the refund policy?

The $275 deposit is non-refundable. Cancellations made at least 30 days before the trip may be eligible for up to a 70% refund of payments made beyond the deposit. No refunds are guaranteed within 30 days of departure.

Should I get travel insurance?

Yes. We strongly recommend travel insurance for flight delays, illness, cancellations, medical emergencies, lost luggage, and unexpected changes. Suggested options include SafetyWing, Nomad-style travel insurance, or any travel insurance provider you trust.

Can I travel solo?

Yes. Solo travelers are welcome. You may choose shared double-occupancy lodging or request a single-room upgrade if available ($600).

Can I attend with a partner or friend?

Yes. You may request to room with a partner or friend on the sign-up form.

Is this trip only for experienced travelers?

No. First-time international travelers are welcome.

Is this a party trip?

It includes Carnival, nightlife, music, and celebration, but it is also a cultural, spiritual, educational, and healing-centered experience.

Do I need a passport?

Yes. You need a valid passport. We recommend that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond the trip dates.
